Mines contaminate more than 80 nations, many of them the world's poorest. Despite the presence of international legislation to ban the landmine, many mines remain in the ground or in stockpiles and 42 countries have yet to sign up to the legislation; these include the US, Russia, China, Pakistan, Finland, Sri Lanka and India. Co-ordinating role Landmine Action co-ordinates a network of more than 50 organisations in the UK (see left). It is the UK arm of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) and a founding member of the Cluster Munition Coalition. Landmine Action provides the secretariat to the UK Parliament's All Party Landmine Eradication Group. Research and fieldwork
