Mapping Western Sahara
One of Landmine Action’s main objectives in Western Sahara is to implement a GIS system that enables all survey sketch maps to be entered onto a large interactive map of Western Sahara. The map will be posted on this website and distributed to all agents working in Western Sahara, including POLISARIO and MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara).
The maps currently available show all areas surveyed by LMA in the Northern Sector of the POLISARIO-controlled territories in Western Sahara. These maps will be updated in accordance with the progress of the surveys by a national staff member, trained in GIS techniques. Eventually, the interactive map will allow you to zoom in on each benchmark which will then show you a detailed view of each mine field, cluster strike or spot task.

Landmine Action’s survey in Western Sahara has generated detailed mapping of Western Sahara along with data of Dangerous Areas and individual mines and other ERW. The datasets have been created in specialised GIS software which is not freely accessible.
