IMPROVING THE LIVES
OF POST-CONFLICT COMMUNITIES

Landmine Action is currently working with partners in two mine-affected countries, Sudan and Sri Lanka.

We are also researching the contribution to peace that mine action can make.

All this, in addition to our campaigning work on cluster bombs and ERW.

Landmine Action Week

Each year in November, Landmine Action co-ordinates a nationwide week of action to raise awareness of the disastrous humanitarian impact of problematic weapons - such as landmines and cluster munitions - on civilian populations both during and in the aftermath of conflict.

The week of action provides an annual focus for generating interest and support for Landmine Action’s work – and the work of other similar organisations worldwide.

Landmine Action Week runs from Monday 30 October 2006 – Sunday 5 November 2006.

This year’s focus is on Cluster Munitions and the need for domestic and international action on these indiscriminate weapons.

In 2006, Landmine Action’s week of action follows the launch of Product Recall, the UK campaign to ban cluster munitions, and immediately precedes the Third Review Conference of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) – the international forum responsible for regulating problematic weapons such as cluster munitions.

The CCW Review Conference takes place in Geneva from 7 to 17 November 2006 where the assembled nations are being called upon to respond to the mounting evidence of excessive and predictable harm to non-combatants from the use of cluster munitions and start negotiations on a new international law governing these weapons.

Product Recall – The UK campaign to ban cluster munitions
Product RecallLaunched in October 2006, the Product Recall campaign aims to highlight the persistent problems associated with cluster munitions and the UK Government’s contribution to the excessive harm caused by these faulty weapons. Specific actions outlined in the campaign provide an opportunity for the public to effect change in national and international policy on these indiscriminate weapons.

Please continue to check this webpage for updates on Action Week activities.

Do not be put off by the one-week timeframe, Landmine Action continues to fundraise and campaign throughout the year so your support is appreciated at any time.

ERW is more likely to kill and injure children than landmines.
