AOAV update on explosive weapons in populated areas - July 2010

20 July 2010 | Related documentRelated document

This update from AOAV welcomes the UN’'s call for action on the problem of explosive weapons in populated areas. The UN Under-Secretary General (USG) for Humanitarian Affairs recently highlighted the fact that the use of explosive weapons in populated areas is one of five key issues regarding the protection of civilians in armed conflict. The USG states that this is due to the unacceptably high levels of harm repeatedly caused to civilians and urges the Security Council to begin a dialogue on ways to tackle the problem of explosive weapons.

It concludes that the effort was fundamentally inadequate.
