Victim Assistance
SLIRI is committed to providing targeted support to mine victims.
Throughout the country, SLIRI staff are collecting information on mine incidents and mine victims.
This will help agencies, including the UN and humanitarian/development NGOs plan effective programmes in mine affected areas.
Victim First Responder Training
SLIRI is training local health professionals, SLIRI Field staff and local deminers in advanced trauma care so that they are better able to treat mine victims in the immediate aftermath of an incident.
As part of this programme, we hope to extend this training programme to local villagers living in mine affected areas so that they can act as ‘Village First Responders’ able stabilise a victim at the scene of incident.
